The festival on short films presented by Alliance Francaise and NFAI continues…This week creativity seems to be at its best. Witness exhibitions of paintings and ceramic works. One can also enjoy a demonstration of the stages involved in preparing oil paintings.

Alliance Francaise de Poona: Le Juge Et L’Assasin (The Judge and The Assassin) 1976/ Col/ 125 min.

Directed by Tavernier, the cast includes Michel Galabru and Gerard Jugnot.

Joseph Bouvier tries to kill his fiancee (who refuses to marry him) and then to kill himself. He fails in both the attempts. But two bullets remain in his head. 1894. Declared sane again. Joseph leaves the asylum. From then on, he roams the countryside, raping and killing people. Judge Rousseau finally identifies him and gains his confidence. But he doesn’t believe in Bouvier’s madness and does all in his power to send him to the gallows. At 6 p.m. on Sunday.

A festival of short films: L’Amour Est A Reinventer: Dedans (7 min., 1997) Directed by Marion Vernoux. A lone man tells about everything he would have liked to do if he hadn’t fallen ill.

Uhloz (13 min., 1989) Directed by Guy Jacques. Uhloz is a story about the adventures of two children on Christmas eve.

Une Visite (26 min., 1995).Directed by Philppe Harel. Twice a year, Carole is visited by her parents in Paris. As always, she enjoys welcoming them.

Presence Feminine (16 min., 1987) Directed by Eric Rochant. A young woman barges into the home of a man she doesn’t know. The man, irritable and unpleasant, has no feeling of hospitality. The woman arrives with two large bags. One of them contains hands that are alive and conscious. What may be in the other one is a mystery…

All the above films will be screened at the National Film Archive of India, 6.30 p.m. on Friday.

Max Mueller Bhavan: Engel Auy Eisen (Angel of Iron) 1980/81, 105 mm., B&W. Directed by Thomas Brasch, the camera is handled by Walter Lassally. The cast includes Hilmar Thate and Katharina Thalbach.

The story is a true one and can be considered one of the most attention grabbing criminal cases of the postwar period in Germany. It takes place in Berlin in the year 1948. Chaos, black-marketing, and robbery reign and people want to take advantage of the situation – the Gladow Band, for example, who for 13 months create such insecurity in Berlin that the police are helpless. At 7 p.m. on Friday.

Paintings and ceramics: Creative club and Family Art Gallery presents its annual exhibition of paintings and ceramics, to be inaugurated by Professor Kapahi, director, NCRA on Sunday evening. The show is on till Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. daily at the Creative Club premises, 16, Amber, Bhosale Nagar.

Radiance: An exhibition-cum- sale of exquisite diyas and pots with ceramic work and copper, gold and silver touches. At Zeenisha’s Talent Window, 2419/A, Saifee Street, next to Videotron, M.G. Road, 10.30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

Tanishe: A collection of hand painted, Shalwar suits and dupattas in silks and voiles by Tapan Pillay and Sheetal Mathrani. At Saks Art Gallery, Boat Club Road, 10.30 a.m. to 8.30 p.m. from Sunday to Tuesday.
