Cricket purists may criticise the Twenty20 format, but this particular brevity could be the thing that the ICC needs to push cricket as a permanent sport for the Summer Olympic Games. “I feel that Twenty20 is the ideal format because we can play the tournament in two weeks which is also the duration of the Olympics,” said ICC CEO Malcolm Speed here today.
He said that the format is best suited for the Olympics considering the nature of the Games and ICC was in the process of getting an IOC membership.
“We are in the process of seeking membership of the IOC which will hopefully be completed by this year. However, our long-term objective is to have cricket in the Olympics,” Speed added.
