
Vehicle thief arrested; 4 cases solved
With the arrest of a youth from Rajasthan, Sabarmati police on Wednesday solved four vehicle thefts and recovered the vehicles. On a tip-off, a team nabbed Kiran Kumar Kaluram Sharma with a scooter stolen from Sabarmati. Kiran was living in Babubhai-no-Oradio in Vejalpur for some time after he left his village Devgarh Madaria in Rajasthan. During interrogation, he confessed to have stolen three vehicles from Ghanshyamnagar near Gandhi Ashram and Sardar Patel Colony in Naranpura. He was produced in a court and remanded in police custody till November 28. Police said Kiran was a farmer but had left his village to find easy ways to make money. He was arrested in a similar case three years ago and granted bail by a court.
Dowry case
Odhav police registered a case of dowry death against the in-laws of 22-year-old Hemlata Alkesh Darji, of Radhe park Society, who set herself on fire at 10 am on Wednesday. She died in V S Hospital. Her father lodged a complaint against her in-laws, saying Hemlata was tortured and beaten for dowry. The case has been registered against the husband, father-in-law Mangaldas and mother-in-law Premila.
Chemical theft
Vatva GIDC police have arrested one more person in connection with the theft of chemicals from a chemical factory on October 29. Arvind Haribhai Pujabhai Khant, 19, of Ganesh Chemical Industry, Phase No 2, Vatva, had accompanied 10 others and locked the factory watchman in a toilet in the premises before stealing chemical worth Rs 10.57 lakh.
Calves rescued
Shahpur police rescued seven calves being taken to a slaughterhouse. Police said a mini truck was intercepted near Rani Roopmati Masjid in Mirzapur. Truck driver Mohammed Farooq Mohammed Jikaria Sheikh, of Khanpur, was arrested.
Burgled
Mutthaian Govindswami Mudliyar, of Bhaipura Biswal Park, lodged a complaint with Amraiwadi police that cash and jewellery worth Rs 29,400 were stolen from his house on Wednesday.
