JOHANNESBURG, APR 7: South African captain Hansie Cronje and three of his players today denied allegations of any involvement in match-fixing during South Africa’s one-day international series against India in March.

Cronje, Herschelle Gibbs, Pieter Strydom and Nicky Boje were named earlier today by Indian police investigating match-fixing allegations during a five-match one-day series between India and South Africa.

In an official statement issued by the United Cricket Board of South Africa (UCBSA), Cronje said: “I have been informed by the UCB of the statements that have been made in

the media and I am stunned. The allegations are completely without substance.”

The cricket board’s statement also said: “South African captain Hansie is a man of enormous integrity and honesty. He and his teammates Nicky Boje, Herschelle Gibbs and Pieter Strydom are emphatic that there is no substance to allegations that they were involved in match-fixing during the one-day international series in India.

“The UCBSA believes that these players have not been involved in the practice of match-fixing.”
