CHENNAI, February 16: When actor Rajnikanth came to vote at the Stella Maris College at 11.20 a.m. on Monday, for the central Chennnai constituency, a crowd of nearly 200 people rushed in behind his white ambassador yelling out and waving to him.
Rajnikanth, clad in a white kurta, stayed for barely three minutes. He scampered in, voted, and was whisked away in his car. But for the Rajni fans it was a big moment — to see their idol cast his vote.
The 10 security persons in the area had ealier refused permission to a press photographer who did not have an EC pass. But minutes later they were swept aside by a frantic mob. While the gate was shut after Rajni’s car entered, the fans pushed it open by sheer force and rushed in behind him.
TMC men and Rasikar Manram leaders had to form a human shield around Rajnikanth. The shield caught the press unawares and a scuffle ensued.
