CHANDIGARH, May 12: Central Scientific Instruments Organisation is organising a training programme on environment related issues on World Environment Day, June 5.

The programme, for school and college teachers, is being organised by the Environmental Monitoring Instruments Division of the CSIO, in collaboration with the UT Environment Department. It would include lectures and practical training on topics concerning environment, pollution, monitoring techniques and knowledge of instruments required for the same purpose.

According to Basudeo Prasad, the head of the EMID, the programme would help teachers

in improving their information on environment and enable them to provide solutions to students in an improvised manner.

The training programme is free of cost and will focus on generating awareness about the environment related problems in the society.

Protest against police harassment
Saleswomen working with various private concerns held a meeting today in Chandigarh to protest against the alleged misbehaviour of Chandigarh police personnel. The meeting was presided over by Nalinikant Vashist, president, Chandigarh Social Welfare Association, and Devinder Singh Babla, president, Chandigarh unit of Samajwadi Janata Party.

Nalinikant said that when they checked with the IGP office as to the rationale behind the practice, they found that no such instructions had been issued by the office. She said they have given a written request to the office of IGP to check the malpractice.
