NEW DELHI, June 15: The meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC), tomorrow, which will probably be its last before it is converted into a steering committee, is likely to consider the selection of the party candidates for the office of the President and Vice-President.Indications are that the Congress may decide on KR Narayanan for the post of President and Najma Heptulla for Vice-President.The CWC is meeting for the first time after the landslide victory of Sitaram Kesri in the election to the party's top post.Tariq Anwar, Kesri's political secretary, today said that the meeting would discuss the forthcoming Presidential election and finalise the venue and date of the party's plenary session. The Congress, in fact, should have no problem about supporting Narayanan's candidature but the party expects the United Front to initiate discussions for a consensus in this regard. Kesri has declared that he was not in the presidential race. Some Congress leaders including G Venkataswamy have sought to introduce a new element through the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe parliamentary forum demanding that the post should go to someone from these communities who had been a political sufferer and had gone to jail in the freedom movement. However, this forum last week amended its earlier resolution and sought the office for someone from these communities without any rider.
