NEW DELHI, May 18: D S Group entered the semifinal of the 25th Goswami Ganesh Dutt Memorial Tournament when they defeated Young Friends by 25 runs at the Hindu College grounds here on Monday.

Opting to bat first, D S Group made 265 for seven in the stipulated 40 overs, thanks to a 120-run opening partnership between Rakesh Bhatia (62) and Balwinder Singh (63) in 22.2 overs. Avtar Singh (41), Davinder Singh (21) and Harish Kumar (23) consolidated on the solid foundation.

For Young Friends, medium pacer Sanjay Rana and 14-year-old leg-sinner Rakshit Pant claimed three wickets each. In reply, Young Friends could muster only 242 for nine despite a patient 70 by skipper Raju Sharma off 59 deliveries.

D S Group will take on the winners of Sonnet vs Collage Group match in the semifinal on May 27.

Brief scores: D S Group: 265 for 7 in 40 overs (Rakesh Bhatia 62, Balwinder Singh 63, Avtar Singh 41, Sanjeev Rana 3 for 37, Rakshit Pant 3 for 62) beat Young Friends: 242 for 9 in 40 overs (Mobin Ahmed 41, Vijay Tyagi 51, Raju Sharma 70, Devinder Singh 3 for 48, K S Rana 2 for 35).
