Kisan Mela at Rakhra on Sept 30Patiala: A Kisan Mela will be organised under the aegis of the Punjab Young Farmers' Association at Rakhra, near here, on September 30. Seeds of the newly-released high-yielding HD 2687 wheat variety will be distributed among the members. Farmers will also be able to buy nucleus vegetable seeds for winter harvest. Scientists of the Indian Agricultural Research Institute will interact with them on various problems. The theme of the Mela is "Problem of plenty - the need for diversification".Hawan in memory of Kargil victimsPatiala: The Gufa and Sadhu Samaj on Sunday organised a hawan in memory of Kargil victims in which a large number of people participated. A community kitchen was also organised on the occasion. The occasion for the hawan was the 92nd birthday of Swami Krishnanand, president of the All India Hindu Mahasangh and founder of the Naina Devi Gufa. Later, a meeting of the Swami Krishnanand Ashram trustees was held, which took up the issues of maintenance, further development and management of the ashram property.
