
Rewa Sho files defamation case against journalists
BHOPAL: T I Urmalia, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Rewa thana, has registered a defamation case against two local journalists under Sections 500, 501 and compounded it by applying non-bailable Sections 469 and 505 (2). The journalist, Ramesh Tiwari of Dainik Jagaran, has been charged with carrying reports “defamatory to the police in general and himself (Urmalia) in particular”. Anil Bajpai, president of the District Journalists’ Association, has been named as a co-accused. Urmalia accused Tiwari of defaming him by alleging, in a diary item, that the police officer was guilty of extorting money from a businessman. The SHO has named a few people who have said that the report lowered his prestige.
YC chief demands Munde’s resignation
NAGPUR: Anees Ahmed, president of the Maharashtra State Youth Congress(YC) has demanded resignation of Gopinath Munde, State Home Minister and Deputy Chief Minister, saying that the Home Ministry has totally failed to control the law and order situation in the State in view of the violent bandh, following the desecration of the Statue of Dr B R Ambedkar at Mumbai. He has also condemned the attack on the official residence of Chhagan Bhujbal, the leader of Opposition in the State Assembly.
Congress dharna against State govt
NASHIK: Local Congress leaders staged a day-long dharna in front of the district collectorate today to protest against the ransacking of houses of Congress leaders Chhagan Bhujbal and Madhukar Pichad. They demanded the dismissal of the Manohar Joshi government on grounds of failure of law and order machinery in the State. Those who participated in the dharma included city unit president of the party Murlidhar Mane, former MP Dr Vasant Pawar, Jayprakash Chhajed and several corporators.
Alcoholics pledge to kick addiction
NASHIK: Thousands of people, mainly alcoholics, thronged Dabhadi village near Malegaon on Monday to kick their addiction to alcohol with the blessings of Sheshrao Maharaj. The new messiah of anti-alcoholism administered an oath to the crowd and blessed them. Seshrao Maharaj, who hails from Chikhali in Buldhana district is on a tour, holding rallies of alcoholics, helping them overcome their habit. He moved out of his hometown when local farmers raised an outcry over damage to their fields by vehicles of people visiting him. Seshrao Maharaj, said that he was not a magician or a tantrik, but a common man whose life was ruined due to liquor. He cited his own example and the sheer willpower which helped him kick the habit.
Shekhar’s call to fight corruption
INDORE: Former prime minister, Chandra Shekhar, today called upon mediapersons and citizens to unitedly fight corruption which was “eating into the body politic like cancer”. He said politics was now centred around caste, creed and religion which had led to erosion in moral values. Replying to a question by mediapersons, the former prime minister, who is here to attend the Shastipurti celebration of veteran journalist, Prabhash Joshi refused to comment on the Congress decision to stay away from the vote of confidence motion moved against the Bihar Chief Minister, Laloo Prasad Yadav. Refusing to comment on the DMK’s decision to pull out of the United Front ministry, he said the final decision on the matter was yet to be taken.
