Central Railways asked to pay for poor servicesAHMEDABAD: The Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum, Ahmedabad, has directed the General Manager (commercial), Central Railway and the Ministry of Railways to pay Rs 10,000 with 18 per cent interrest as compensation to Rani Advani for ``deficiency in service'' (late arrival of train & cancellation of berth). Advani and her sister had reserved sleeper berths from Pune to Nagpur on June 16, 1994. The train was to arrive at 10 pm but it was running late and no information was available. The train arrived at 0002 hrs the next day. Sleeper coaches S-7 and S-8 had been cancelled and passengers had to cancel their tickets and get refund. As they had no alternative, they travelled by the train with discomfort and undergone great stress, it said.Woman burns self and daughterRAJKOT: Dhaniben, a 26-old housewife allegedly committed suicide alongwith her two-year-old daughter by setting herself on fire at Devnagar area of the city here on Saturday. According to police sources, the deceased first doused herself and then her daughter with kerosene Chandrika and set themselves ablaze. Both died on the spot. The bodies were sent for postmortem. The cause of the suicide is being investigated.New legislators take oath in MPBHOPAL: Madhya Pradesh Assembly Speaker Sriniwas Tiwari on Monday administered the oath of office to newly-elected members, Hukum Chand Yadav and Ram Kishan Chauhan. The two were elected on BJP ticket in the by-elections held for the Khandwa and Bhojpur Assembly constituencies respectively in April.The Bhojpur seat fell vacant after former chief minister Sunderlal Patwa, won the February 8 by-election from Chhindwara Parliamentary constituency, while elections were held in Khandwa due to the passing away of sitting BJP member, Puranmal Sharma.
