AHMEDABAD: The area near the airbase at Bhuj, which saw violent agitations on Tuesday by the wives of technical staff of the air force over alleged discrepancies in the fifth pay commission report, remained peaceful on Wednesday. In Jamnagar, agitating wives staged dharna and put up a road blockade near the airbase. Agitators hurled stones smashing windscreens of four police vehicles and that of a sub-divisional magistrate. Superintendent of police of Kutch district Pravin Gondia said no one was injured in the scuffle.

PUNE: Two traders from

class="" rel="nofollow, noopener" target="_blank">Mumbai were arrested by the Vishrambaug police while allegedly trying to smuggle about three kg of gold estimated at over Rs 12 lakh into Pune on Tuesday. Ashok Kumar Jain and Kamal Jain intended to sell the gold to a city jeweller, police said. Police intercepted the autorickshaw hired by the traders and questioned them. They were arrested when they failed to produce documents relating to the purchase of the gold found on their persons.

PUNE: Bhakti Barve Inamdar, the new president elect of the 78th Natya Sammelan to be held at Kankavali next month, was felicitated by Pune mayor Vandana Chavan at a function organised by a voluntary organisation on Tuesday. Bhakti Barve said she would work for the qualitative improvement of theatre and the welfare of stage artists during her one-year tenure as Natya Sammelan president.
