AHMEDABAD, MARCH 12: The United Christian Association (UCA) has sought protection to the community alleging that a group of Bajrang Dal activists barged into a prayer meeting of Christians being held in labour-dominated Odhav area of the city on Tuesday last and disturbed it.
In a memorandum to Gujarat Governor S S Bhandari on Sunday, UCA has alleged that the trespassers who identified themselves as Bajrang Dal actvists disturbed the meeting, being held in Rajendra Park locality of Odhav for the past three years, by slapping a few of those who were present and also snatched copies of the Bible before leaving.
Charging that the meetings were being held with a view to induce poor people into Christianity by offering allurements to them, the Bajrang Dal activists warned of serious consequences if a stop was not put to these, UCA joint secretary Samson Christian said in the memorandum, a copy of which was faxed to PTI.
Seeking protection for the Christians and action against the guilty, the UCA alleged that the victims have not lodged any complaint in this regard with the police in Odhav because of ‘fear of retribution’ if they did so.
The UCA has also faxed the copies of memorandum to the Director General of Gujarat Police, Commissioner of Ahmedabad city police, home secretary, Chairman, Gujarat Minorities Commission, Chairman, National Human Rights Commission, National Minorities Commission, Delhi, All-India Christian Council, Hyderabad and the Opposition Leader in the Gujarat Assembly, he said.
