Pop singer Daler Mehndi today filed an application in the Punjab and Haryana High Court, seeking anticipatory bail in two cases registered against him, for human trafficking and for allegedly threatening an assistant police sub-inspector through his secretary.

The application will come up for hearing on Monday, said his counsels, accompanied by Daler’s brother Mika.

Daler has also sought bail ‘‘in relation to future FIRs that may be registered for 32 other alleged complaints’’, said his main counsel Ravinder Kumar, who has interestingly written to the Centre, the CBI and the FBI, calling Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh and former Patiala SSP Paramraj Singh Umranangal crusaders.

Demanding a special investigation into human trafficking, Kumar says: ‘‘In a telephone conversation, Capt Amarinder has suggested (to) me that every second Punjabi living abroad is an illegal migrant to the USA, UK and Canada etc. Fortunately, I share his views.’’

When contacted in New Delhi this evening, Kumar confirmed having written the letters but said the letters were meant to ‘‘expose’’ both Umranangal and Amarinder , who had claimed that Daler alone had sent 5,000 persons abroad.

‘‘Capt is making a very big political mistake,’’ he said, denying any secret deal between Daler and the Punjab CM to hush up the case.

As President of the Rashtriya Mukti Morcha, Kumar had sent two letters, dated October 29 and 30, to the Secretaries of the Union Ministries of Home Affairs and External Affairs, as well as the Directors of the CBI and FBI.
