MUMBAI, May 28: Madhu Dandavate, Deputy Chairperson, Planning Commission, today called for confrontation between the various arms of administration. He was delivering a lecture at the Maharashtra Chamber of Commerce and Industry here today.Dandavate felt that judicial activism was on the rise due to the inaction of the Parliament on important issues. He said that the Hawala scandal came to light not through the Parliament or the administrators but through the judiciary. "It was not discussed in Parliament probably because it transcended political barriers," he said. "That is why many parties maintained a conspired silence," he added. But he also warned against too much activism, and gave instances when the courts had taken its role as the administrator of justice, a bit too seriously. He assuaged the fears of the people that the Parliament would pass bills to reduce the power of the courts. He said that any bill which went against the spirit of the Constitution would be defeated by the people of the country.
