With the ICC fixing July 18 as the date when the BCCI’s plea against the ban on Sourav Ganguly will be heard by South African judge Albie Sachs, the Indian skipper is not likely to be named in the tour party to Sri Lanka.
The reason: the selection committee is meeting on the same day to name the team for the tri-series.
The official ICC communication about the date is yet to reach the BCCI, but the international body’s media executive Jon Long confirmed the July 18 hearing to The Indian Express.
BCCI Jt Secretary Gautam Dasgupta said that the ‘‘BCCI is yet to receive the communication but Ganguly will only be included after Sachs’ final decision.’’
However, even if Sachs is to deliver his verdict in favour of Ganguly, it will be a task of sorts for the BCCI to include him in the team after it has already been announced.
