UDAIPUR, February 4: Countering the opposition propaganda against her, Sonia Gandhi today categorically stated that now she was the "Daughter of India" and would remain so till her last breath.

Upholding her main plank of a stable government at the Centre under the Congress leadership at an election meeting here during her second phase of campaigning in the state, Sonia in an emotional submission said: Yeh desh mere suhaag ki nishani hai aur ab mein Bharat ki beti hoon, aur mein antim saans tak Hindustan se pyaar karti rahoongi (this country is symbol of my suhag and I am now the daughter of India and will love it till the last).

In her eight-minute speech, Sonia stressed on her plank of a stable government and held "non-Congress unstable government" at the Centre responsible for the people’s miseries and burning problems, including that of corruption.

Accompanied by son Rahul, Sonia arrived at the Maharana Pratap airport at Dabok at about 11:45 hours, much later than the scheduled time. She wasgiven a warm welcome at the airport by senior Congress leaders.

Sonia opened her speech with a salutation to Maharana Pratap and devotional poetess Meera Bai and equated the Nehru family with the family of Maharanas of Mewar swaying that just as they had sacrificed everything to protect their self respect, freedom and integrity of Mewar, the Nehru family too had sacrificed everything for the nation and its progress.

She said that everybody knew that she had no interest in politics and that she had always kept herself away from it. However, now forced by circumstances, she had to enter politics to carry further the incomplete mission of her late husband.

Speaking at length on the prevailing political situation and problems, Sonia said certain political parties were out to divide the people on the basis of caste and religion. Such parties were encouraging separatist designs. She said those parties’ misdeeds and wrong policies had flared up the disparities and problems of instability, unemployment andpoverty.

Sonia said that Congress had proved its credentials of leading the country on the path of development and of keeping the people and nation united in accordance with the principles of secularism, communal harmony and brotherhood.

Remembering her late husband Rajiv Gandhi’s contributions in the development of the country and Rajasthan, Sonia said his vision made him come forward with ideas of bringing the youths in active political participation and in ensuring reservation for women at the panchayat level to pave way for progress and uplift of rural women.

She said in the next century she wanted the world to watch "our nation strong and stable, marching on the path of development."

Later, Sonia left for Bhilwara to address another election meeting there.
