DAV-8, SD School in U-19 soccer final

CHANDIGARH, Oct 12: DAV Senior Secondary School, Sector 8 and SD Public School-32 set up a title clash in the Chandigarh state junior football championship being played at Sector 17 Football Stadium. In the semifinals today, defending champions DAV-8 beat Government Model Senior Secondary School-20 by four goals to nil while SD-32 handed a 5-0 drubbing to Government Model School-23, in the second semifinal.

In the first semifinal, DAV opened their account through Harish in the 10th minute. Six minutes later Dinesh put it across the rival keeper to make it 2-0. After the break, Harish scored his second and team’s third goal in the 5th minute of the second half. Kalarjit completed the rout in the later part of the second session.

SD-32 lads were far better side than the opponents and shot into the lead through Sandeep in the 6th minute of the game. Ankur Chopra made it 2-0 while Avneet shot the third goal before the break (3-0).

Narinder added two more goals to the tally in the second session.

Softball meet
The 13th Chandigarh senior softball championship will be held at DAV College, Sector 10 on October 16 and 17. During the meet City men’s and women’s teams would be selected to take part in the 20th senior national softball meet to be held in November. Entry close on October 15, with Bhupinder Singh, secretary, Valley Club.
