The Congress high command has taken serious note of the statement by its associate member and Minister of State for Finance in the Mufti-led government, Babu Singh, that Kashmir is a trilateral issue between people of India, Pakistan and Kashmir.
He had also suggested that undivided J&K should be made a federal state and its foreign and defence affairs should be under the joint control of India and Pakistan.
In the state also, Singh’s statement has evoked a sharp reaction, and he has been asked to clarify his statement. “This is indiscipline. We have sought his clarification on his statement. The Party high command too is not happy. He has been asked to clarify his stand,’’ senior Congress leader and Deputy Chief Minister Mangat Ram Sharma told Express on Wednesday evening.
Sharma said Babu Singh, being a minister and a member of the Congress party, is under their discipline. “How he can gave a statement which is against the party’s stand?’’ asked the DyCM.
Sources said that Pradesh Congress president Peerzada Sayeed is likely to discuss the issue at a meeting here soon.
Singh, who had made it clear that he was not raising the issue as a Congressman, today said his views have wrongly presented by the media.
Meanwhile, the BJP today said that Congress minister’s statement had made it clear “the Congrss was working on some hidden agenda’’.
“This has vindicated our stand that the Congress-led UPA government wanted to hand over J&K to Pakistan on a platter,’’ said state BJP chief Nirmal Singh.
