PUNE, Feb 28: Vice-President of the Dehu Road Cantonment Board Amin Shaikh was arrested by Mumbai police in Dehu Road last night. Shaikh was arrested for his alleged involvement in the murder of two criminals.

A police team headed by inspector S J Nalavade of the Juhu police station arrived in Dehu Road last evening and carried out the action.

Shaikh is one of the accused in the case in which the two criminals, Raju Saibu Kanadi and Chandrakant Takle, were murdered. He will be produced in court tomorrow.

Kanadi and Takle were the prime accused in the murders of former DCB vice-president Sambhaji Awale and a corporator of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation Sanjay Kale. Awale was murdered in June, 1996. The Juhu police had found the bodies of Kanadi and Takle lying near a beach in July last year. They had been murdered and their bodies thrown near the beach. Investigations conducted by the police established the identities of the two bodies.

The prime accused has been absconding. There are five other accused in the case.

The police team also questioned the present member of the cantonment board Milind Rokade and former vice-president member Yadunath Dakhore.
