PATIALA, Feb 15: The Patiala District Congress Committee (urban) has demanded immediate expulsion of senior party leader and former minister Brahm Mohindra. A deputation of the DCC would soon call on party president Sonia Gandhi to apprise her of the “misleading campaign” launched by Mohindra against the Committee chief.

Stating this here today, Ved Parkash Gupta, president of the DCC, said that Mohindra and some of his supporters, who had recently been expelled from the Congress for indiscipline, had tried to malign him by presenting a copy of a photograph showing him with certain Akali leaders. Gupta said that while Mohindra and his supporters had alleged that the photograph was taken at a function to celebrate the birthday of SGPC chief Gurchran Singh Tohra, the fact of the matter was that the picture was taken at a religious function which was attended by leaders of all the political parties.

He said a banner, which could be seen in the photograph, referred to a blood donation camp held on a later date in connection with the Tohra’s birthday. Gupta said the delegation would urge the high command to depute a high- level team to make an on the spot study of political and personal conduct of Brahm Mohindra.

While discussing the objections raised by Mohindra on the newly-constituted DCC, Gupta said in the present political scene a broad based organisational set up was the need of the hour. He said the party unit had emulated All India Congress Committee by inviting former Congressmen to rejoin the party.
