The Chhattisgarh Assembly proceedings were stalled on Tuesday after Congress legislator from Bijapur Rajendra Pambhoi stated that the state policemen had threatened to kill him.

Congress legislator Nandkumar Patel drew the attention of the House towards the complaint of his party legislator that policemen had barged into the ICU of Government Medical College and Hospital in Raipur on October 22 and threatened the MLA. Demanding immediate action against the erring police officers, Opposition Congress stalled the question hour in the Chhattisgarh Vidhan Sabha.

Pambhoi stated that a group of armed policemen had entered the ICU and shouted abuses at him. “They even threatened other people in the ICU. Though I immediately called the Senior Superintendent of Police (Raipur) B S Marawi, till date no action has been taken in this regard,” he added. The Congress also demanded action against the Dantewara district collector who had allegedly described a tribal Congress legislator as a “Naxalite sympathiser”. He said the second incident comes days after Dantewara Collector K R Pisda recommended in a letter to the state government to scale down the security cover of tribal legislator Kawasi Lakma, hinting that he did not require it as he was a “Naxalite sympathiser”.

“Even the elected representatives are not safe in the state. The Raman Singh government must make a statement in the House,” he added.

Kawasi Lakma (Congress) stated that the administration was trying to brand him as a “Naxalite sympathiser” as he had exposed corruption in the district.
