Bayern Munich commercial manager Uli Hoeness on Thursday described David Beckham’s transfer to Real Madrid as a ‘farce’.
‘‘This (transfer) is good for us. A farce like I’ve never seen. It shows you how not to do it,’’ Hoeness told the Sid sport news agency. ‘‘I split my sides laughing.
In the long term it won’t have any effect on the game.’’
The famously outspoken Hoeness also said there would have been ‘‘no way’’ he would have signed the England captain as it meant bringing his wife, former Spice Girl Victoria, along too.
‘‘You have to bring his wife as well. So in that case, no way.’’
Beckham was officially presented in Madrid on Wednesday to accompanying media hysteria.
Hoeness was critical of the Spanish champions’ decision to replace coach Vicente del Bosque with Carlos Queiroz, even though he had just won the championship. ‘‘They got rid of a coach just because he’s not media friendly, even though he does good work,’’ Hoeness said.
