UGC agitation to continue

  • The agitation of the University Grants Commission (UGC) staff association has not borne any fruitful results on the demands of the staff against the "unjustified and illegal" decision of the commission regarding the revision of pay scales of assistants and personal assistants. Association president M.P. Singh in a statement said that their agitation will continue till their demands were met with.
  • Sangma gets CSR "Man of the Year" award

  • Lok Sabha Speaker P.A.Sangma was presented the CSR "Man of the Year" Award 1998 by the Competition and Success review here on Saturday.
  • S.K. Sachdeva, the editor and publisher of the periodical said that Sangma was being recognised with the award instituted this year for maintaining high standards of parliamentary democracy.

    Nine other prominent personalities including M.F. Hussein, Rahul Dev of Aaj Tak, JNU V-C Asis Dutta, K.N. Harikumar Editor, Deccan Herald, Chandan Mitra Editor, Pioneer, Narottam Puri and Prof V.S. Raju, director, IIT (Delhi) were awarded the Super Brain of India Award.

    Pulse polio immunisation concludes

  • The second phase of the Pulse Polio Immunisation programme concluded on Sunday. According to the Delhi Government, about 1.8 to 2 million children up to 5 years of age were administered oral polio vaccines. During the first phase of the campaign about 17.83 lakh children had been administered the drops.
