The villagers of Noida and Greater Noida have decided to evaluate the effectiveness of their elected representatives at a Maha-panchayat on October 15 at village Tilpata. Individuals and parties under scrutiny have agreed to participate. Among national-level leaders, Rajesh Pilot of the Congress has confirmed his participation as a spectator. Fireworks are expected at the day-long function as political foes could use the opportunity to embarrass each other.

World Habitat Day conference
India’s existence as a viable nation is being threatened, according to Union Railway Minister Nitish Kumar, while sounding a warning on the uncontrolled population growth. Inaugurating a conference on the World Habitat Day organised by the Sulabh International Social Service Organisation today, Kumar said that broken homes, gowing incidents of crime, expanding poverty and unhappiness were all results of population boom. Joint Commissioner of police Amod Kanth, who is also the general secretary of the NGO Prayas, was given an award on the occasion.

Train halt at Bahadurgarh
The Northern Railway today announced a two-minute halt for the Navyug Express at Bahadurgarh. The Railway spokesperson today said that weekly train will arrive at Bahadurgarh at 1.33 a.m. and will depart at 1.35 a.m. and on its return trip will reach Bahadurgarh at 1.12 in the afternoon and stop for two minutes.

Media workshop from Tuesday
A workshop titled Media Zone 1998′ which seeks to bring together top technical experts, producers and advertising professionals to comprehend the key elements that shape what the viewers ultimately get to see on their television sets will start in the Capital tomorrow. The inaugural session would be addressed by Dr N. Seshagiri, the Prime Minister’s Information Technology Task Force convenor, Prasar Bharti Chief Executive Officer Dr O.P. Kejriwal and broadcaster Mark Tully.

Hauz Khas village goes online
The Hauz Khas village, the fashion hub in the city of top Indian fashion designers, jewellery houses, prominent institutes in modeling and fashion technology, and top of the line eating joints of Delhi is all set to be present on the world wide web through a state of the art site hauzkhasvillage.com.

The site also contains the history of the village starting from the Moghul regime and the changes the village has gone through all these years. The main feature of the site is that in a period of three months, by December, if will be converted into a full fledged shopping mall with secure credit transactions and banking facilities. The site will be formally launched on October 7, with the starting of the Hauz Khas village carnival.

It is expected that the commercial activity will increase 30-fold within a year through the site, as it will be linked to the major shopping malls of the world and reputed catalogue companies.

ITBP best stall at Red Cross fair
The Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) was declared the winner and the best handicraft stall at the Red Cross Society fair at Golf Links grounds today. Handicraft items made by wives and children of ITBP personnel were displayed and sold at the fair, the ITBP spokesman said. He said that this was the second time that the ITBP stall was judged the best at the fair.
