US State Department coordinator on counter terrorism J. Cofer Black today held discussions with senior Indian officials over the security situation in the sub-continent including Afghanistan.

Black, who arrived here after a brief visit to Islamabad, is said to have held talks with Joint Secretary (USC) Sujata Mehta.

It is learnt that he was given an update on the situation in Pakistan, particularly on the status of terrorist camps operating on the other side of the Line of Control.

Both sides shared views on Afghanistan and the functioning of terrorist outfits in the area. Black was also given an overview of the terrorist situation in the region. Black, for his part, reiterated the US’ commitment to preserving human rights, advancement of mankind, freedom of expression and freedom of access to religion.

Meanwhile, South Block officials said the discussion between Black and senior Indian officials was part of the regular interaction between the countries at various levels on combating international terrorism.
