
Man dies after falling into a pit
A 28 year-old man died after he slipped and fell into a pit in the Nandnagri area on Wednesday afternoon. The incident occurred around 2.30 p.m.. The police said the man, identified as Nazir, was standing very close to the pit which was partially filled with water. He reportedly lost his balance and fell into it.
Passers-by rushed to his rescue, but Nazir was already unconscious and had taken in a lot of water. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead.
One held for smuggling liquor
The South-West district police on Tuesday arrested a resident of Alwar in Rajasthan on charges of smuggling liquor, and recovered more than 18,000 pouches of country-made liquor from him. The accused, Satish Kumar Gupta, was caught selling the contraband to residents of Rangpuri village in the Vasant Vihar police station area.
Five held for hijacking Maruti Van
Five persons have been arrested on charge of hijacking a Maruti van in the Ballabhgarh area of Faridabad on Tuesday night. According to the police, Prem Kumar, a taxi driver, and his brother Vijay were on their way to Panhera Khurd from Ballabhgarh when five persons asked them for a lift. When the van neared Gupta Hotel, the accused pushed the two brothers out of the vehicle. Then they fled towards a deserted road, said the police. A case has been registered against all the accused Sunder, Karamvir, Sumer, Naresh and Sunder.
Body found
The body of a man, aged 20-22 years, was found in Samipur Badli on Wednesday. The police, said he had committed suicide by hanging himself. But, the body has not yet been identified. The body was found on the stretch between the GT bypass and Liwaspur turning. The youth was wearing a green baniyan.
