Woman set afire, dies in hospital
A woman was allegedly set afire by her husband in Mehrauli on Thursday night. Sushma (30) later died in a private hospital. The police have arrested her husband Shan-ker, a casual labourer. According to the police, Sushma and her two children had recently come back from a holiday in Ranchi. She and her husband got into an argument. He then allegedly doused her with kerosene and set her ablaze. Hearing screams, neighbours rushed into the house and took her to the nearest hospital.

Fire at Ranbaxy chief’s house
A fire broke out at the 15 Aurangzeb Road residence of Ranbaxy Chairman Dr Bhai Mohan Singh early on Friday. While no one was injured, a tent put up for a wedding function, potted plants and trees were razed to the ground.

There was a function for Singh’s grandson’s wedding for which a large tent had been erected. The fire broke out at around 4 a.m., long after the party was over.

Hesitant staff said: “There was no fire. You must be getting the smell of burnt food.” When the charred pots and trees were pointed out to him, he walked away sheepishly.

However, one guard said, “The party was over. In fact all the staff was busy clearing up. The fire must have started from a sikri that overturned, as there were so many small fires burning inside the tent at the time.”The Delhi Fire Service (DFS) confirmed that they had sent five fire-tenders to the spot and the blaze was well within control in an hour’s time.

Man run over by DTC bus
An unidentified man was crushed to death by a DTC bus opposite the C-Block petrol pump in Preet Vihar (east Delhi) on Thursday night. The Preet Vihar police have registered a case of causing death due to rash and negligent driving and arrested the driver, Manohar Lal, a resident of Haryana. The deceased was slim, aged around 28-30, 5’6” tall, had a wheatish complexion and was wearing cream trousers, a checked shirt and cream sweater. The bus was plying on route no. 469.
