Demands of staff on strike

NEW DELHI, July 24: The group C and D hospital employees on strike include technicians, pharmacists, laboratory assistants, kitchen staff, nursing orderlies and sweepers.

They are demanding – 1) Time-bound promotions. The employees claim that there are no avenues for promotion and they have been working at the same post ever since they joined.
2) Twenty-five per cent of their basic pay, which varies between Rs 2700-3400, as patient care allowance. They point out that doctors get Rs 4,000 and nurses get Rs 2,000 per month as patient care allowance.
3) Two uniforms every year and an increase in the uniform washing allowance to Rs 300 per month. They get two uniforms every two years and Rs 60 per month as maintenance allowance.
4) No privatisation and an end to contractual labour used as security and cleaning staff.
