A PAC jawan today killed his company commander and a guard before committing suicide at the police lines in Banda.
Mahendra Singh Yadav had applied for leave to attend his sister’s wedding. He had reportedly been asking company commander Virendra Singh for the leave for several days. Today, Singh refused to sanction the leave.
The jawan immediately shot the officer, and the guard who rushed to rescue Singh, before killing himself. Later, senior PAC officials, including IG Kashmira Singh, held a meeting to ensure such incidents don’t recur. ‘‘Circulars have been issued to PAC battalions for taking precautions,’’ Banda DM Ravindra Nayak told The Indian Express.
‘‘The need of the hour is to go for strong measures to ensure PAC personnel get better service conditions. Usually they live in tents and cannot meet their family for months because of rigorous service conditions,’’ former state police chief Shree Ram Arun, who has also been ADG of PAC, said.
