Depressed man self-immolates

NEW DELHI, October 6: A 32-year-old mentally disturbed NTPC engineer doused himself with kerosene and set his clothes on fire in Kailash Colony at around 9.30 this morning. Sandeep Keshav was rushed to Safdarjung hospital with 100 per cent burns. “Though his condition is said to be stable at the moment, we cannot comment on how he will be after two days,” said the doctor on duty.

His wife, Neeta, and the domestic help, Suneeta, were in the house when the incident happened. The couple’s two daughters were at school.

In her statement, Suneeta said that she heard Neeta’s screams from one of the bedrooms. On rushing to the room, she said that she saw Sandeep in flames and witnessed Neeta trying to extinguish them. Sandeep was undergoing psychological treatment. The police say the victim was on leave from the day his treatment started.
