With the West Bengal Home Secretary joining the bilateral discussion at the secretary-level talks in Dhaka, the state administration will try to prove its worries about growing ISI-backed extremist activities in Bangladesh.
While Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya informed the media that state Home Secretary A.K. Deb will attend the bilateral discussion, he didn’t elaborate.
Bhattacharya, who is meeting Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on September 17, is expected to raise the state government’s threat perception in border districts due to ISI activities and the Dhaka regime’s non-cooperation.
Sources in the Chief Minister’s Office say the state government would also give inputs from the state intelligence report on infiltration and ISI-backed terrorist camps in Bangladesh.
Though the Chief Minister didn’t elaborate, a senior state government official said: ‘‘Besides the issues of infiltration and Indian extremists, like North Bengal Kamtapuris (some of whom, state government believes are in Bangladesh), the issue of fake currency notes — from Rs 100, Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 making inroads into Eastern India — would also come up for discussion.’’
