KHARAR, March 4: The newly elected MP from the Ropar (Reserve) Parliamentary constituency, Satwinder Kaur Dhaliwal, has said that she would raise her voice in Parliament for the transfer of Chandigarh and the left-out Punjabi speaking areas to Punjab and for the inclusion of the Anandpur Sahib Assembly constituency, especially Ropar town, in the Ropar (Reserve) Parliamentary constituency. She was talking to ENS after winning the Ropar seat for the second consecutive time. Dhaliwal has defeated the BSP-Congress combine nominee, Mann Singh Manhera, by a margin of 85,524 votes on the ticket of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) supported by the Bharatiya Janata Party. She first contested the Lok Sabha seat from Ropar in the 1997 by-election, when she defeated Buta Singh of the Congress by a margin of 1,29,200 votes. While thanking the people of the constituency for reposing faith in her and the SAD-BJP alliance, she said that the verdict showed that the people of this constituency too endorsed the candidature of Atal Behari Vajpayee as the prime minister. She said people wanted a stable government with an able leader at the Centre, `which only the BJP could provide.'Dhaliwal said that she would make all out efforts to construct five railway bridges at Kurali, Morinda, Fatehgarh Sahib, Sirhind and Dhuri. She said she would work towards the four-laning of the Chandigarh-Anandpur Sahib road via Kharar-Mohali and for the laying of the much awaited Chandigarh-Ludhiana rail line via Kharar-Morinda. She added that she would also raise her voice in Parliament for bringing big industries to this constituency so as to generate employment opportunities.Terming her victory as the success of the SAD-BJP alliance as also that of the people of the constituency, she said that as the Roopnagar district was very backward, she would endeavour for its all round development. She further stated that the constituency, especially Roopnagar district, lacked basic amenities and that she would work for providing amenities to the residents of this area and also to upgrade educational and health facilities in this area. When asked, if she had any expectations for a berth in the Union Cabinet, a BJP government was formed at the Centre, Dhaliwal said that it depended on the high command. ``My job is to live up to their expectations and to carry out any responsibility they give me'', she said.Regarding the main reasons which led to her victory, she said `a stable government and an able leader' at the Centre was the main factor which went in her favour. The Punjabis have reposed their faith in the SAD-BJP combine and their policies in Punjab, where the work done by both the parties resulted in a clean sweep by the combine, she added.Although she is herself new to politics, her husband Rajinder Singh Dhaliwal, was a prominent Akali leader and was a minister in the Punjab Cabinet headed by S. S. Barnala.
