Linares, march 7: Four more rounds remain and it is a big struggle for Viswanathan Anand to salvage whatever he can from this year's edition of city of Linares 2000 Super GM Chess tournament here. The Indian, world No 2, is on the sixth and last spot after six rounds and he has four draws and no wins. Monday was the second rest day and play will resume late on Tuesday night in the seventh round. In his current position, with two points out of a maximum six, Anand stands to lose Elo points. His performance rating at this stage is 2619 as compared to pre-tournament rating of 2769. Unless he chalks up at least one win, he could lose in terms of ratings. The sixth round was an all-drawn one but it did throw up some entertaining class. In the past draws, especially quick ones have been frowned upon and the organiser, Luis Rentero, does not take kindly to it. He has often reduced fees and even threatened not to invite players who opt for quick draws. He would force players to stay on till 40 moves but now things are a little different. But in Round Six, the draws were not dull ones. The sixth round game against Leko saw Anand close to what he is known for, which is exciting chess. Here, he has been out of form. Leko probably expected Anand to make mistakes. But the Indian came up with sufficient defence and drew - his fourth in six games.Alexei Shirov has never beaten Garry Kasparov. But in the sixth round, he probably had an outside chance. He missed a line which even Kasparov admitted could have created problems. Once he was out of that situation, Kasparov handled the Najdorf Variation well enough to get that half point from 36 moves. Kraminik's second clash with Kasparov could be the high point of this tournament. With a title at stake, it is possible that this one match could be a well-fought one, unlike many previous times, when these two have opted for quick draws. In Round Seven, Anand meets Kramnik for the second time. In their first clash, they had split the point and the Indian had black. This time, he has white. In other games, Kasparov will meet Khalifman and Leko takes on Shirov.Standings after round 6: 1-2 Kramnik, Kasparov (4 points each), 3. Leko (3.4), 4-5 Khalifman, Shirov (2.5), 6 Anand (2).
