Declaring that resources are not a constraint for Delhi government, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Thursday said the national capital was ready to take its place on the world stage with improved quality of life and better infrastructure. The government’s vision of Delhi on the world stage involved the two platforms of improving the quality of life and mitigating the impact of market forces on the vulnerable sections of society, she said.Dikshit was speaking at a session on building sustainable first class world cities at a corporate conference of the Asia Society at the northern port city of Tianjin on the last day of her five-day visit to China.Sharing her government’s experience, she told business and political leaders from across the globe at the meet that providing better quality of life related to improving the physical infrastructure in the power, transport and water sectors. She spoke of the initiatives of her government about power reforms, public investment and the water sector, besides efforts to reduce air pollution through introduction of CNG and increasing the green cover.“Vulnerable sections of society, needless to say, are a vital concern of the government. These sections include the old, the infirm, the young and the economically disadvantaged,” Dikshit said as she highlighted the measures of Delhi government to empower them.Among the various factors that had helped was the financial turnaround, she said, noting that “it is the sheer availability of resources that has helped us to take up plans for urban rejuvenation for Delhi."
