Surat, April 30: Additional Commissioner of Police (range II) P C Thakur, in a directive issued here on Tuesday, has banned the use of arms, explosives and restricted activities that might disturb the peace of the city from May 1 to 15. Among other restrictions, demonstrations, burning effigies in public places or carrying burning objects in processions have also been banned. People have been prohibited from making inflammatory or provocative speeches during the fortnight. Those found violating the directive are liable to imprisonment upto one year and fine.
The directive, however, will not be applicable to government servants and those who require to carry weapons as a matter of duty. The order has been issued under the provisions of the Bombay Police Act. Thakur has asked people to maintain peace during the next few days.
