
CHANDIGARH, MARCH 19: The Punjab State Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission has stayed the order of the District Consumer Forum, Roopnagar, directing the Punjab Urban Planning and Development Authority (PUDA) to refund the interest charged from allottees of Sector 69, S. A. S. Nagar, for non-delivery of possession of plots, a press release issued by PUDA said.
PUDA had allotted plots through a draw of lots on August 1, 1995, and allotment letters were issued to successful applicants on different dates. However, due to some reasons, the allottees were not granted the possession of the plots, the release said.
The Roopnagar District Consumer Forum, after hearing the arguments of the counsel of the complainants, the allottees, had asked PUDA to refund the interest recovered from the complainants within 30 days and not to charge any interest for future instalments till the possession of plots.
PUDA filed an an appeal against the order stating that the plots were allotted at a price of Rs 1,400 per sq yd against the prevailing price of Rs 3,600 per sq yd.
It also mentioned that if the terms and conditions of allotment, including price and interest were not acceptable to the allottees, PUDA was ready to take back the plots allotted and refund the amount deposited by the allotees along with interest, the release added.
