Dogra opens first mobile firing range

He admitted that the scheme launched with fanfare a few months back, had proved to be a non-starter because of lack of proper monitoring. The response to the scheme had been encouraging and he had himself addressed a number of meetings as part of this drive and the last meeting he addressed in this chain was at Serai Amanat Khan village in Amritsar district a couple of days back.

The DGP said he would himself tour at least two districts each fortnight to give an impetus to the police-public relations scheme.

Dogra expressed optimism that 15 per cent cut proposed to be imposed in all government departments on nonessential expenditure, including petrol and telephones, would not affect the working of the police as the police force had already curtailed its expenditure.

He said it was planned to further prune the security provided to different categories of persons in the state. The yardstick for downgrading the security cover would be based on the threat perception of the person involved or the post he held.The DGP said that the exercise to cut the security cover to individuals in the state was undertaken about four months back and the number of cops on security duty had been brought down considerably.Harinder Singh Chahal, commandant of the second commando battalion, said that policemen from different states were being imparted training at the commando training complex here. Policemen from Bihar and Himachal Pradesh were currently undergoing training here too.
