JUNE 21: Domnic D’Silva’s solitary strike int he second-half helped BPCL (Marketing) defeating Bombay Boys 1-0 in Pool A of the MDFA-conducted Third Division football league match at the St Xavier’s ground, Parel, today.

Dominic chipped the ball over Kartik Panja — Bombay Boys keeper — in the 71st minute to secure his side a much needed win.

Bombay Boys started off well as they contained the BPCL forwards especially in the first-half in which they dictated terms.

Bombay Boys forwards Bosco Elly, Gordon Noronha and Chagan Chauhan had several scoring opportunities but they seemed to have kept their shooting boots at home.

From the begining of second-half, BPCL applied pressure and their concerted efforts finally bore fruits by way of a goal in the 26th minute.

BPCL’s Roydon Rodrigues neatly relayed the ball to mid-fielder Mujib Khan. The latter seeing substitute Dominic D’Silva well-placed, inside the box, passed the ball to Dominic who broke free of the Bombay Boyz defence and chipped the ball over goalkeeper Kartic Panja and into goal to give BPCL the lead.

Thereafter, Bombay Boys took control of the proceedings and tormented the BPCL defence. But BPCL defenders — Vijay Waghela and Chidabaram Naik — stood rock-like in the BPCL rearguard and thwarted the frequent raids of Bombay Boys.
