PUNE, Dec 29: Congress corporators today urged Municipal Commissioner Rajiv Agarwal not to implement the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation’s (MSRDC) proposal on flyovers since it was passed in presence of only 37 corporators after utter chaos.

In a letter to the commissioner, five Congress corporators, including Ankush Kakade, Shantilal Suratwala, Vilas Wadekar, Ajit Apte and Nilesh Nikam have pointed out that 87 corporators had not expressed their opinion on the proposal. Stating that the implementation of the proposals would not be fair, the letter says the proposal should be executed after the approval of majority of the corporators.

They have urged that the corporation should hold negotiations with town planning authorities before any decision. The letter sought to know how the MSRDC had tabled a proposal of Rs 125 crore on a single page without any details like expenses for per square foot and shifting of service lines. They have also complained that the House was not given any details even after persistent demands.

Kakade later told media persons that the party may go to court challenging the legality of the meeting in which the proposal was accepted.

Meanwhile, a few leftist organisations and environmentalists have said in a press statement that the corporation should hurry to take a final decision on the flyovers.

The press statement, signed Sulbha Bramhe of Lokvidnyan Sanghatana, Vilas Wagh and Ajit Sardar of Samajwadi Jan Parishad, G P Pradhan, Sujit Patwardhan of Parisar and Vijay Paranjape of Econet, have demanded that the corporation prioritise schemes like laying roads, road along the river bank, and an efficient public transport. They said the citizens would suffer if the scheme, never a part of the development plan, was implemented.
