No leads, Gurgaon cops say probing all angles

A 23-year-old junior engineer employed with Air France was shot at, four times, by unidentified assailants barely 200 meters from his house in Dayanand Colony near Sector-5 here on Friday evening.

The victim, identified as Prateek, had just left home in his Skoda car when the incident took place. The police got a call at 7.20 pm.

The police suspect the assailants, most likely two of them, came on a motorcycle.

While the family is tightlipped about the incident, the Sector-5 police have registered a case of attempted murder against two unknown persons. There has been no arrest yet.

“The family has not named anyone in their complaint; we are investigating all possible angles to track the assailants,” Sub Inspector Rani Devi of Sector-5 police station said on Saturday.

Prateek is unmarried and lives with his family.

According to the police, Prateek was rushed to a local hospital first but doctors there referred him to Artemis Health Institute seeing the critical nature of his injuries — doctors said he was taken to hospital with four bullets in his body.

“Prateek is critical since he has lost a lot of blood. It is more important to stop his bleeding though we have operated and have removed the bullets,” said Dr Kushagra Katariya, chief cardio-thoracic surgeon who operated on him.

According to the police, Prateek was shot at twice in the chest, once in the abdomen, and a fourth bullet was lodged in his arm. He has been shifted to the Critical Care Unit (CCU) and is on ventilator. On Saturday evening, when Newsline last checked, the doctors were still trying to make his condition stable.

The family members refused to comment on the incident.
