SURAT, Jan 25: Three police constables, attached to the Ichhapore police station, who were allegedly held in an inebriated state have been suspended pending inquiry, the Ichhapore police said.

On Saturday Evening, City Police Commissioner Kuldip Sharma was returning from Kribhco at Hazira when he visited to the Ichhapore police station. Sharma tried to locate the police station jeep through the control room’s wireless system but could not do so. But he spotted the jeep later at a road side hotel.

According to information, while two of the constables, in an inebriated state, had taken the jeep for having supper, a third, also drunk, tried to flee on seeing the police commissioner near the hotel.

The police inspector of Icchapore police station A R Gameti was also in the police station when the constables took the jeep out.

The three suspended cops have been identified as head constable Fatehsinh Devaliaya, constables Govind Narsinh and Tarachand Nathuram. They have been booked under sections 66(1)(b), 85(1)(3) and 81 of the Prohibition Act and have been placed under suspension.

While Devaliya and Narsinh took the jeep out, Nathuram escaped from the spot on seeing the commissioner. Narsinh and Nathuram were arrested the same evening, while Devaliya was taken into custody later. PI A R Gameti is investigating the case.
