PUNE, Jan 18: In a major theft, cash of Rs 1.15 lakh was stolen by unidentified thieves from the Saroj Textiles shop in Ravivar Peth last night. The thieves managed to open the locks of the shop by duplicate keys. The theft was committed sometime around midnight.

Shop owner Manishkumar Vijayraj Sonigra had locked the shop around 2 pm yesterday. The thieves latched onto the counter keys kept in theshop and later walked off with the cash. The theft came to light around 10 am today when the shop was opened.

The Faraskhana police brought a dog squad to trace the thieves.

5 youths held: Five youths who indulged in stealing tape-recorders and other items from cars and jeeps have been nabbed by the Nigdi police. Some of the youths were school dropouts, police said.

The youths had been committing the thefts since last one month. One of them was working as a driver on a tempo trax. The modus operandi was to park the jeep besides the cars. While some of them quitely removed the tape recorders and other items, the others kept a watch. The police first caught red-handed Shafir alias Babu Rehman and later arrested the jeep driver Sanjay Kadam, Deepchand Yadav, Dinesh Nana Rambhau Kalbhor, Pintya alias Ravindra Ashok Takalkar.
