CHANDIGARH, JAN 21: Senior veterinary officer with the civil veterinary hospital at Rajpura and the Deputy Director of Animal Husbandry were directed by the Punjab and Haryana High Court here to file affidavits in the civil writ petition alleging the sending of cattle to slaughter houses in West Bengal or Bangladesh.

Deposing before a division bench comprising Justice R.S. Mongia and Justice S.S. Sudhalkar, veterinary officer Kultar Singh produced the office copy of the permit book for exporting cows. The copy was returned after being scrutinised by the court.

The petition will now come up for further hearing on January 25. Respondent Sher Khan and Deputy Director Animal Husbandry Dr. Harsurat Singh were present in the court during the proceedings.

The HC had earlier directed the chief goods supervisor and the station supervisor at Howara Railway Station against delivering 600 cattle heads to the consignees till further orders.
