AHMEDNAGAR, Nov 17: Police stations across the district will soon be linked with the Ahmednagar district police headquarters here with E-mail and video conferencing facilities, deputy superintendent of police Dnyaneshwar Phadtare said yesterday. ``The work in on and is expected to be completed by January next,'' he said.The work has been a part of the project providing all the district police headquarters in the State with the Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) facility, making Maharashtra to be the first State to use the satellite communications system.With the arrival of the facility,quick communication and quick contacts would be possible for the police, Phadtare said.Police Sub Inspector G J Pawar of the wireless department who is looking after the installation of these services said that the work would be done in threee phases. The first phase include voice transmission to be followed by data transmission and video conferencing.An expenditure of about twelve crores is expected for the installation of the facilities.Installation of dish antenas of various diameters was underway at various places in the State with first of its kind was installed at Sangli, recently. The work at all the district headquarters is expected to be finished by end of December. These services would be linked to INSAT-2B satellite.Apart from the fixed installation in all the districts there will be four mobile communination installations in reserve at Pune, Aurangabad and Nagpur which could be used during the emergencies like natural calamities.Shyam Telecom, a private firm has been entrusted with training of police personnel hanling the sophisticated telecommunication gadgets, it was stated.
