The country can wait!First ladyWhile still on Gaatha, the latest entrant is Kiran Joneja. who plays the role of a traditional Muslim. But she is peeved atreports that it was all in the family and she bagged the role merely because she is Ramesh Sippy's missus. "If that had been the case, I would have been playing the central character!" she fumes. Joneja adds that the role was right for her and Sippy is a brilliant director - reasons enough to accept it.Poll ExitsThe flip side of the election coverage is that some of the serials have not been regularly telecast. Raj Babbar was deluged with calls asking him if his serial, Mein Dilli Hoon, has really been taken off air because of the election code of conduct. Then Ramesh Sippy had to reassure people that Gaatha is still around. In fact, Gaatha will be back twice a week later in the month.No contestCertain viewers seem to be taking Bhagyashree's role in Andhi Zasbaton Ki too seriously. She plays a politician in it, leading to an offer to contest the elections. But she refuses to divulge the party name saying that she is not yet ready for politics. "A politician need to serve the countryand I cannot give that kind of a commitment," she says.SmokescreenSeema Kapoor is a victim of mistaken identity. Tired of her image as the bimbette on the prowl, she signed up a spate of serials where she could wear saris and mouth traditional cliches. That plan bombed as her role in Yug wound up, and Intequam was pulled off air due to low TRPs. That leaves Seema with just Padosan. Now she returns with her old image in Chandni, where she plays a cigarette smoking glamour girl!Top Gear?Once upon a time not so long ago, Pankaj Dheer was at the top of the tellyworld with five serials simultaneously on air. In those heady days he vroomed around in a Toyota. But in the last few months, fortunes reversed drastically and Dheer either had problems with the directors or the serials winded up. Now he is left only with Yug. And is seen travelling around in a Maruti Zen.
