NEW DELHI, July 16: Defending champions Eastern Railway (ER) and South Eastern Railway (SER) retained their titles in men’s and women’s team events respectively in the 46th All India Inter-Railway Table Tennis Championships in Nagpur, according to reports reaching here.

In the men’s finals, ER got the better of traditional rivals SER 3-2. ER’s Ganesh Kundu produced some excellent game and became the main archiect of their victory.

ER’s Shivaji Dutta lost the first set to Amrish Chatterjee 20-22, 10-21 but Kundu levelled 1-1 defeating Debabroto Sana 22-20, 24-22. Tushakar Kanti Ghosh fell before international Nupur Santra 14-21, 12-21. Datta and Kundu won the next two sucessive games outplaying Sana 17-21, 21-18, 21-13 and Chatterjee 19-21, 21-14, 21-16 respectively.

In the women’s final, SER women recorded a 3-0 victory over ER in a one-sided affair. Anindita Chakraborty beat Debasmita Das 21-16, 21-19 while Mantu Ghosh beat Avanti Sinha 21-14, 21-16. Kasturi Chakraborty beat Meenu Dhawan 21-14, 22-20.
