Eighteen-year-old Armaan Ebrahim took a major step towards winning his first international motor sport series by finishing second in Round Five (Sprint Race) at the Sentul Circuit, Indonesia, which put him four points clear of American Seth Ingram in the 12 round Formula V6 Asia Series.
While Armaan, driving for Team TARA-DTM, was the quickest in morning practice, his qualifying run was hampered due to a new set of tyres which slowed down his run. “There was just no grip in the new tyres and we did not get any time on new tyres as compared to our practice runs on the old tyres,” Armaan said. As a result, Armaan qualified fourth, behind Aaron Lim, Earl Bamber and Satrio Hermanto.
With changing conditions making life difficult for all drivers, Armaan believed in himself and his car. “I was confident of making a few places in the race… but what was utmost on my mind was the crashes I had in the earlier rounds and did not want to take chances in pushing myself,” he added.
By the middle of the first lap — of the 15-lap race — Armaan made a great move on Setria and occupied third place. Six laps later, he moved past Earl Bamber, which there on seemed the order, as leader Aaron Lim had built up a reasonable gap which Armaan sensibly decided not to chase.
Having dealt with constant rear sliding, Armaan’s level-headed run was par excellence with the hope that he finds the right balance for the Grand Race (Round Six) tomorrow.
