The Election Commission today appointed six special observers for the Assembly elections in Bihar, Jharkhand and Haryana. Bihar is to have two special observers, Sayan Chatterjee and A.C. Shukla, for the entire period, till the polls in February.G.S Patnaik will oversee Assembly elections in Jharkhand and Afzal Amanulla will be in Haryana, EC sources said, adding that two more special observers would be named shortly, one each for Jharkhand and Haryana.EC consultant K.J. Rao, who visited Patna yesterday, said he would submit his report tomorrow, as Chief Election Commissioner T.S. Krishnamurthy was away today. ‘‘I saw a lot. The whole city has been painted green! I will submit a report tomorrow,’’ said Rao.The EC had lodged 12 FIRs against all the sponsors of the Rashtriya Janata Dal’s controversial rally in Bihar. Meanwhile, senior JF(U) leader Nitish Kumar said, ‘‘There should be a single-day polling to ensure that impartial elections are held as the ruling party will not be able to misuse the government machinery in its favour’’.
