NEW DELHI, SEPT 28: The Election Commission has appointed two additional officials to act as special observers in Amethi Lok Sabha constituency where elections are being held on October 3.A senior IAS officer and a senior IPS officer, both belonging to the Uttar Pradesh cadre, will function in addition to the three central observers already deputed to Amethi in view of the fears expressed of violence or disruption of the polls.The Election Commission has also asked the Home Ministry for additional central paramilitary forces to be deployed in the constituency where in a crucial fight Congress President Sonia Gandhi is facing Sanjay Singh of the Bharatiya Janata Party.Commission sources said the State Government has been asked to beef up its security forces in Amethi, and additional paramilitary forces were being deployed.Apprehending large-scale violence, booth capturing and bogus voting in Amethi, the Congress had sought greater deployment of forces, alleging that hundreds of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh workers had entered the constituency with the motive of disrupting the polls.Last week, the Congress had approached the EC to demand deployment of central forces in the constituency alleging that an "atmosphere of fear" was being created by the state administration.
